Up Close With AGA Professional Stainless-Steel Ranges

If there’s such a thing as value in luxury goods, this AGA is it.

AGA might be best known for its iconic line of cookers, but since its acquisition by Middleby in 2015, the company has begun to branch out. In particular, the AGA Professional Series now offers traditional pro-style ranges for consumers.

The stainless-steel ranges are made in the UK, and are AGA’s answer to Thermador, Wolf, and Viking. They’re now available in gas and dual-fuel, in 30-inch, 36-inch, and 48-inch sizes

We haven’t had a chance to test out how well these ranges actually cook, but the AGA Professional machines we’ve seen on the show floor at Design and Construction Week look and feel the part of a pro-style range.

Hefty metal knobs turn with ease, continuous grates cover powerful brass burners, and an infrared broiler offers faster, more even broiling.

Middleby, a manufacturer of commercial ranges, has owned the consumer brand Viking Range since 2013. It’s interesting to note that AGA’s 36-inch range sells for around $5,700, while Viking’s Professional Custom dual-fuel range starts at just over $9,000.

On specs alone, the 36-inch AGA appears to provide impressive internal competition. Both appliances have 4.9-cu.-ft. ovens, both offer self-cleaning, and both boast industrial designs. The Viking has six burners with one that tops out at 18,500 BTU, plus multiple 15,000 BTU burners. The 36-inch AGA has five burners and maxes at 17,500 with a few lower-powered ones. Both have convection, but Viking has a proprietary single-fan version while AGA has two fans.

The Viking has a three-year full warranty, while the AGA is one year full, plus two years of limited warranty on the oven’s elements.

Now, the following ranges will be joining the 36-inch, dual-fuel APRO36DFSS:

We look forward to testing AGA Professional ranges under controlled conditions in our labs to see if the performance lives up to the specs.
