Samsung Cooks up Some High-End Kitchen Appliances

The big news coming out of Samsung is a whole new suite of high-end kitchen appliances. Dubbed the Chef Collection—based on the influence of Samsung's Club des Chefs, which was revealed in conjunction with the Food Showcase fridge at CES 2013—it's a kitchen package poised as direct competition to LG's Studio Series.

The aforementioned Food Showcase fridge, making its way to the States after its IFA debut, is a part of the new Chef Collection. Folks who want something larger (or just don't like side-by-sides) have another option: a four-door model very similar to the Samsung RD32FMQDBSR. Unlike that model, the new fridge incorporates the metal cooling panels of the Showcase Fridge, as well as a few other perks that we plan to get up close and personal with later in the show.
Probably the most innovative part of the new kitchen package is a dishwasher that incorporates Samsung's new WaterWall technology. Instead of using washer arms the twirl and spray, WaterWall uses a linear mechanism that moves along the bottom of the dishwasher to deliver consistent high water pressure from one corner to another.
Cooking gurus can get excited about a new oven which riffs on the Flex Duo model; whether or not the new temperature regulation and controls are as enhanced as promised remains to be seen. A matching over-the-range microwave is also part of the collection.
Samsung has some catching up to do, as the Studio Series has been around since 2011. Nevertheless, the South Korean giant is looking to capitalize on the ongoing growth in both the American economy and housing sectors. If the new products can hold up compared to the stand-alone versions that we've tested, however, LG could be in for a tough fight.
