Never underestimate the market for nerdy novelty items, especially if there's a retro theme attached.

Remember the Power Glove, that ridiculous dud of a gaming accessory marketed by Nintendo in the late '80s? Well, it’s back—in the form of an oven mitt.

Pete Hottelet is a California designer responsible for turning several fictitious Hollywood products into real-life products—including the soap from Fight Club and the Stay Puft Marshmallows from Ghostbusters. His most recent creation is a silicone rubber oven mitt modeled after the infamous Nintendo Power Glove.

Hottelet made a few of these mitts for himself a few years ago, and they soon attracted the attention of pop culture nerds everywhere. So he decided to post the idea to IndieGoGo to see if it could catch on as a legitimate product.

With 32 days left in the campaign, the Power Mitt Oven Glove has already surpassed its $18,000 goal, nearing $20,000 at the time of this writing. Hottelet notes on his IndieGoGo page that he doesn’t plan to go big with this thing, so if you’re interested in getting one for yourself, this is probably your only chance. U.S. shoppers can preorder one for $39.

We love the Power Glove. It’s so bad.
