In a never-ending quest to make smart kitchen appliances, you know... useful, Whirlpool is working to take the guesswork out of cooking once and for all. Its solution? Making ovens do the cooking for you.

The company has just announced a partnership with a startup called Innit, in which the two companies will produce WiFi-connected ovens under the Jenn-Air brand.

The ovens will connect to mobile apps that will walk you through the process of preparing food, and at the same time tell the new Jenn-Air ovens exactly how to cook your meal. The special sauce is Innit's digital recipe collection.

{{ amazon name="Breville Smart Oven", asin="B001L5TVGW", align="right" }} These smart ovens may sound like a godsend for struggling home cooks, but the claims sound a bit too good to be true. For example, Whirlpool and Innit claim the ovens can adjust cooking based on "weight, temperature, and type of food," which would require some very impressive sensor tech to work flawlessly.

Still, the goal isn't completely impossible. We recently tested GE's Paragon Induction Cooktop and found it surprisingly capable at walking us through sous-vide cooking. I am by no means a chef, and even I was able to sous-vide chicken for the very first time with tasty results. Other smart kitchen appliances, like the June Intelligent Oven, promise a lot but remain unproven.

If Whirlpool can make cooking in your oven as easy as GE made cooking in a water bath, those Jenn-Air ovens could be worth the money. But how much money, exactly? Unfortunately, that information isn't yet available. All we know is that the automated cooking tech will be coming to Jenn-Air connected wall ovens in early 2017.
